Still Standing in the GAP:
“Still standing in the gap” is a phrase often used metaphorically to describe someone who continues to support or advocate for a cause, person, or group, especially in challenging circumstances. The “gap” in this context represents a metaphorical space or deficiency that needs to be filled or addressed, whether it be a lack of support, resources, or representation.
To “stand in the gap” means to actively take on the responsibilities or roles that others may neglect or avoid, thereby serving as a bridge or support system in challenging situations. When someone is described as “still standing in the gap,” it implies that despite obstacles or setbacks, they remain committed to their cause or duty, continuing to offer assistance, protection, or advocacy where it is needed most. This can involve providing emotional support, speaking out against injustice, or taking action to address issues that affect others. Being the voice for the least, lost and the left out.
About CTHRA:
The Connecticut Harm Reduction Alliance is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the dignity and wellbeing of individuals and communities impacted by drug use, homelessness, and sex work. Through advocacy, training and service, CTHRA aims to ensure the availability, adequacy, accessibility, and acceptability of services and resources that remediate the adverse consequences of substance use.
About The Gala
This celebration year, our gala will take place in October to increase awareness for our 10-year anniversary wear. We are still meeting the needs of our participants and helping our community debunk myths and stigmas.
Last year, the US had over 100,000 overdose deaths (Washington Post), and have nearly reached 1 million since 2000 (Vital Strategies). Opioid overdoses are preventable with Harm Reduction services, including access to education, prevention, and Narcan®. Help us raise fundraise to provide life-saving services to communities statewide.
We understand that since this is an in person event, not everyone will be able to attend. If you are unable to join us this year, we encourage donations to help further our fundraising efforts.
All proceeds benefit the CTHRA efforts to save lives
